We're planning a 4 day 3 night ride through Big South Fork, what would you consider a good price for the following ride? Ride through the history of Big South Fork! Saddle Valley is now taking reservations for our 4 day, 3 night ride through the northern sections of BSF. Ride the Long Trail North from Saddle Valley to Charit Creek, and along Station Camp Creek, then north along the river, up to Peters Mountain, then on to Blue Heron mining community, then back south to Station Camp east, and back By way of Bandy Creek to the campground. This will be a long ride, but we will handle all the logistics of packing and moving camp, you will not have to pack anything except your daily provisions for the trail. We will ride with, and meet some of the parks historical figures, legendary Big South Fork guide, and 4th great grand son of Jonathon Blevins, Paul King will show us places not many people have seen, or even know about. We may even run into the spirit of Jonathon himself. We could run into a Native American hunting party, out gathering food for the upcoming long cold winter months on the plateau. Ride with us into the mining and industrial history at Blue Heron, take a tour of the area, and learn about the vast natural resources we have to offer, and have benefited from over the past 150 years, then back by way of Bandy Creek visitors center to learn of how the NPS plans to preserve and protect this great national treasure, learn of the parks dedication to inviting you to enjoy what we have here, not to keep you out, and just drive by to look, but actually get out in the back country and experience it. Posts: 979 06/20/08 07:01:14	Now is this an all inclusive trip. Food & Camping? If so, I think $200.00 is quite reasonable. If it's not, then I would say that it's a little high with the way the economy is right now. People just can not spend the extra money with the price of fuel and food these days. You did say you only need to pack provisions, but I'm not sure if that just means snacks or breakfast, lunch and dinner.

If it's too cheap, people assume something is wrong and it's not worth it, or it won't be organized or fun. If it's expensive, they will pay and because they are certain it will be worth the money. Posts: 38 06/23/08 00:27:23	We plan to provide all meals, and take care of moving the camp from day to day, the only provisions to back would be a sack, or saddle bag lunch, provided by us. Riders should only need to provide their own 2-4 person tent, bed role or sleeping bag, a tote with changes of clothes, and a cooler if they want to bring their own beverages. We would hope to get 30 riders, at $200.00 each, to pay for hiring help to load, unload, and set up camp. There is also the thought of feed and water for the horses, most people I think, would want to provide their own hay and grain. Horses would have to be picketed on a high line. What we want to do, is provide a way to see some of the area that not many people get to ride, and a back country camping/pack trip,without all the work involved, at a fair price. I talk to a lot of people that want to do the ride, but it would be a lot of work, and most people can't do all the planning long distance. We're here, and have the resources, we can do it, if we get the riders. I agree that larger groups can be a pain to be around, but a group interested in this ride, would be serious riders, not a group that wants to go out and run their horses around in the woods for 2 hours, and then back to camp to drink the rest of the day. We're talking a group that enjoys the beauty of the country we're in, and the history, and stories of our ancestors. I went to the Barthell mining community today, and took a tour of the mine, and the mining camp, it was great! Well, is it sounding any better?

Posts: 1401 06/30/08 23:22:42	Yes, for all that work it's worth at least $300. East Fork charges $350 per person for thier weekend rides that include food. Cattle drives out west are closer to $500, and they do a similar service moving all your gear and food for you while you drive thier cattle (they sure had a good idea there!! People paying YOU to work for you!!). The only problem might be getting 30 riders to all be ther on the same weekend. I would think you'd be more likely to get groups of 5-10, and that may not be cost effective if you have to pay help. "Lots of people talk to animals... Not very many listen, though.... If you charge to much, especially on teh first year when things are going to be ... Green?? You may end up getting bad reviews and killing yourself for next year. At 200.00 you probably arent going to make much profit, but I think more people will sign up, making up for the difference If possible, meaning if I am in town or can arrange to be in town even I who HATES sleeping on the ground might sign up for this. If not maybe I'll just offer my services in some other way like ferrying stuff back and forth. I would love to hear peoples stories of things they saw on the trail. And I'm pretty good with a camera. Posts: 1230 07/16/08 20:00:53	I really need a trip just like this one sounds but I am not a fan of tents and sleeping bags, maybe if I could have a blow up bed in my tent and someone to set it up and take it down I would be more interested. The price is good, not too low Nora remember the gas it takes to get there. If you think you may have a loss than maybe tipping should be encouraged. Those that can will tip. I would expect a 3 day tip to be about a 50 to 100 bucks and that is cheap too. Yeah tipping may be a good way to make more money but of course the tip will reflect the good time one is having too. How far a drive is it for me in Wartrace. I still have no clue how long it takes to get anywhere because with the mountains it is not just distance but speed too. Keep us posted for sure, sounds like a fun and relaxing trip. What are the dates? Live to ride learn to fall CJ
